Research Network Brain and Behaviour

The research network “Brain and Behaviour” is characterised by a combination of empirical-behavioural and neuro-scientific methods. New technologies of brain research are combined with innovative simulation facilities and behavioural measuring and observation methods in order to investigate basic and application-oriented questions.

Apart from research on general cognitive and affective brain processes, other special focuses of work are important practical questions, such as the basic principles of performance optimisation. This includes topics such as learning and neuroplasticity, school performance disorders, regulation of emotions and human (peak) performance.

The field of research on Diagnostics and Brain Functions, Genetics, Intelligence and Personality is focussed on the question of differences between individuals.

More than 20 research groups from different departments at the University of Graz, the Medical University of Graz and the Graz University of Technology co-operate productively in an open network on the focus topic of “Brain and Behaviour”. They pool a wide spectrum of methods, ranging from Pharmacy and Genetics to the investigation of the morphological and functional structures of the brain and interdisciplinary questions concerning human nature.

Work groups of all three universities have found considerable international recognition with their research work on Neurosciences for many years. With the foundation of the inter-university research network “Brain and Behaviour”, individual activities and fields of competence have been pooled in order to further extend available expertise.
