Work stressors of medical doctors

Evaluation of mental stress, burnout and depression in Styrian employed and self-employed medical doctors

The aim of this project is the evaluation of mental stress, burnout and depression in Styrian employed and self-employed medical doctors. Special work requirements ("stressor") should also be identified, especially for the profession of a medical doctor.

The following questions are examined:

  • Do employed and self-employed doctors differ in stress, strain and state of recovery?
  • Are there different stress factors that may contribute to burnout or depression?
  • Does stress, strain and state of recovery change over a period of one year?

In this project, all physicians registered at the Styrian Medical Chamber were twice invited to an online study (2015 & 2016). In the first survey, data from 807 Styrian doctors were evaluated. The most important results of this first survey can be found here (German only).
